DIY Love Kenya has come up with another awesome DIY project; The Stick Mirror
This is a really cool project that is pretty simple to do and it makes all the difference when redecorating a space.
To make the stick mirror you need the following materials
- an inexpensive mirror
- some twine or yarn
- a glue gun
- some glue sticks
- spray paint
- a blade
- and blue tape
Take your cardboard and cut off a strip from the edge. With your ruler, measure and mark five inches on that board (mark each and every inch). Poke holes on every inch and ensure the tip of a pencil or a pen can pass through.
Take the remaining piece of your cardboard and at the center, place the marked strip with the tip of a pencil/pen in it and place it at the center. Add another pen/pencil on the two inch mark and draw a circle.
Note: If you’re using a different type of mirror, measure the inches on the mirror and mark it at half an inch smaller
After drawing the two circles you should have something that looks like a doughnut. Once you have this, take your blade and cut out the shape.
Take your twine or yarn and begin to wrap it onto the doughnut shape piece of cardboard that you just cut out.
Once you’re done wrapping the piece of cardboard with the yarn, tie a knot at the end to secure it and ensure that it cannot come off. Make sure you also tie another knot with a loop so that you can be able to hang it up.
At this point you need to bring out the glue gun and the glue sticks that you will use. Take your sticks and begin gluing the sticks to the surface of your doughnut shaped cardboard. Make sure you leave enough space at the center for your mirror. Also make sure the distance between the sticks is even.
Note: If you don’t want to ball park it, just place the sticks before hand.
After the glue on the sticks has dried, turn it over so that you can place the mirror at the back. Pop the case of the mirror off and remain with the mirror. Take your glue gun and glue the edge of the mirror and place it on the frame. Make sure it is at the center
Place some newspapers on the table, then place the mirror on top of it. Take some blue or green tape and tape the front of the mirror to prevent it from being stained by the paint.
It’s painting time! get your nose mask, spray paint and start painting.
Note: The mask is not compulsory but it is meant to prevent you from the toxic fumes. So if you don’t mind the smell and the fumes, you do you.
Once the painting is done, peel off the tape and you have your mirror.
p.s I thought i would paint it silver for this tutorial because i had already done one in bronze
